About AINC

Today, more than ever, we live in an information driven society. Imagine a single day without access to newspapers, magazines, menus, personal and business correspondence and much more. Detailed information that sighted persons take for granted every day such as daily news, grocery, discount and store ads, job openings, housing opportunities, calendars of events, obituaries, health, school, and community issues are simply not available to the blind, visually impaired and print handicapped through any other media other than AINC. Other media (television and radio), constrained to headlines and sound bites, cannot possibly provide the same complete, updated and detailed information provided by reading an entire newspaper.

Until the formation of AINC, Colorado was one of only 10 states in the country, which did not have a reading service for it's blind, visually impaired and print handicapped citizens.

Established by David Dawson, Executive Director of AINC, as a private non-profit corporation in 1990, AINC (then known as Radio Reading Service of the Rockies, or RRSR) went on the air on October 21st, 1991. AINC has been broadcasting continuously ever since with the valuable assistance of over 350 statewide volunteers managed from the Boulder studio. AINC broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The principle focus of AINC, is on providing detailed news primarily through local area newspapers.

AINC utilizes remote and local area volunteers who currently read from over 75 newspapers that cover the four main regions across the State of Colorado.

AINC also reads various magazines, newsletters and original material not available from another resource.

In addition to the newspapers and other publications read, AINC daily reads a variety of public service announcements from jurisdictional, arts, educational and non-profit entities. Calendars of events, grocery and retail ads and employment opportunity news provide some of the day-to-day practical information that AINC listeners have come to depend upon.

AINC is always looking for qualified volunteers. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering with AINC, call or visit the studio or fill out the online volunteer application. The volunteer coordinator will contact you shortly to set up a time for you to complete an oral reading audition.
